Undercover Imbiber Gets Company With Launch Of “All Mixed Up” Column Reviewing Midway Cocktail Lounges And Wine Bars

After years of travelling around Midway looking for the perfect pub, the MORON’s Undercover Imbiber is getting some company.

Starting soon, our undercover female reporter will be getting readers ‘All Mixed Up’ - a column reviewing wine bars, cocktail lounges and other upmarket venues.

"All Mixed Up" - looking to sneer and jeer at Midway's wine bars and cocktail joints...

Written from a “woman’s perspective”, she'll be looking for Midway’s best and worst nights out.

Cocktail and wine bars all across Midway will be visited, with scores of locations already on her hit-list.

As she explained, “the MORON’s owner and its editor have lots of acquaintances who have property and business interests in bars across Midway”.

“These places charge the earth, so hopefully I can wangle a few free drinks while sycophantically puffing up the venues owned by the chums of the MORON’s management and other local businessmen who might be able to do them a few favours in return”.

“I have high standards and will be totally anonymous - staff and owners will have no idea who I am until I tell them I’m friends with their bosses and their bosses’ mates and start asking for a few ‘complimentaries’…”.

“These businesses need to make with the freebies, otherwise ‘All Mixed Up’ will be pulling no punches.”

The new column will complement the ever-popular Undercover Imbiber, who will continue to bring us his smug, pompous, self-regarding ramblings on his usual ‘when I feel like it’ basis.

Since he began his quest, he has been thrown out of dozens of boozers across Midway, while offering gushing reviews on everything from the quality and cost of a beer to the ambience of the pub and the state of the loos – but only if there’s a free pint or six in it for him.

And rest assured, our “All Mixed Up” columnist will be just as nit-picking and condescending about struggling local hospitality venues - unless there a few free drinks provided as an incentive for a good review, of course. Otherwise, she’ll be a-sneering and a-jeering about local bars and their customers, in the effort to put them all out of business and force everybody to go a Wetherspoons instead…

In the real world, there’s no barrel so empty that it can’t be given another scrape…

Sewage Effluent From 6,000 New Homes At Stroochester Marshes Could Be Poured Into River Midway

Concerns have been raised over a developer’s bid to dump more than 2.000,000 litres of raw sewage into a tributary of a protected river every day.

Stock photo of raw sewage outfall
Coynte Developments have pulled out of a promise to build a wastewater treatment plant which would have eventually served almost 6,000 new homes at the huge Stroochester Marshes “garden mega-town” in Stroochester, on the banks of the River Midway.

Now the firm has applied to the Environment Agency (EA) for a permit to discharge the raw effluent into a stream that flows into the River Midway - a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Coynte insists “stringent measures” will be in place to ensure no harm is caused “to investors and shareholders of Coynte Developments PLC”.

"Cram 'em in": Coynte plans for flats
“Originally, we’d agreed to built a sewage plant that would properly treat all of the waste water from the 300 houses we were going to build,” said Mike Coynte, CEO of Coynte Developments. “Then we realised that by making a £12,000 donation to the then-ruling Tory party, we could cram 6000 flats on the site instead.”

“Of course, we made all the usual promises of schools, roads, doctor’s surgeries blah blah blah, so the government over-ruled the local Labo*r council just like we paid them to do.”

“But that sort of stuff costs money, which we’d much rather give to our executives and shareholders. So we’re just going to welch on all of our infrastructure promises and build all of our flats anyway, just like every other housing developer does.”

“Midway Council is broke and can’t afford expensive lawyers to challenge us, and the new Labo*r government are so desperate for new houses that we’ll be allowed to get away with anything,” explained Mr. Coynte.

Mike Coynte: "...a shit..."
“So it’s ker-ching, ker-ching, all the way to the bank!”

The discharge point would be 2 km upstream of the River Midway, a “delicate and vital ecosystem” home to rare habitats and species - including aquatic plants, invertebrates and fish.

Coynte has applied to dump almost 2000 cubic metres of treated wastewater from the plant every day, which would fill about six 25-metre swimming pools.

“But it won’t be my or my director’s swimming pools, so we quite literally don’t give a shit”, laughed Mr. Coynte. “If the water companies can dump raw shit into the river, then there’s no reason we can’t.”

Local Tory councillor Herbert Voletrouser fears the tributary could be damaged beyond repair.

Cllr. Voletrouser: Free marketer...
“There is not sufficient water going down to make a flow, and so if you add the amount they’re looking for, it will be in pools along the river, and I don’t know what the impact will be on the environment,” he said.

“However, these plans were approved by the previous Tory council and the Tory government, and so I’m not saying anything.”

“As for the developer reneging on his infrastructure commitments, that’s the free market economy in action for you. Not letting big companies do exactly what they want would be socialism. Nobody wants that!”

Natural England rules insist housebuilders must ensure all schemes in the River Midway catchment area are “nutrient neutral”.

This means developers must either install an on-site water treatment facility or offset the impact by providing mitigation measures elsewhere, such as wetlands.

An environment assessment submitted on behalf of the applicants says: “Stringent control measures, maintenance and monitoring will be ignored on-site to ensure that there will be no harm caused to Coynte Development profits”.

“If pollution is detected or an incident occurs, the Environment Agency will be contacted, secure in the knowledge that they don’t have the resources to do anything about it.”

Wicked Housing Minister Ang*la Rayn*r: "green initiative"
The Kent Wildlife Trust is urging the EA to reject the request for the sewage discharge permit. A statement on the charity’s website says the River Midway “faces severe ecological threats” from the proposals.

“This fragile ecosystem could suffer from nutrient pollution and contamination affecting livestock and farmland,” it says.

“The Environment Agency must act to protect this vital habitat and prevent long-term environmental damage.”

An EA spokesperson said: “We’ve had our budgets cut by 40% and lost half our staff thanks to Tory budget cuts over the past 15 years.”

“You know how big our Midway water pollution and environmental compliance team is? Well, you’re talking to him right now.”

“The EA takes these cowboys to court, but even if we win the case they can afford to pay the derisory fine and laugh at us. Environmental non-compliance fines are just a minor cost of business to them...”

In the real world, you’d think a 130-odd comments would comprise a sensible debate about the issue in hand. Instead, the vast bulk of comments are from the regular saddo trolls, hunting in packs and trolling anyone who they don’t like. Sensible contributions from them are absent. So no change there…

Midway Borough Council Under The Microscope As Pothole Annoys Tory Councillor

Simon Goebbels
By Simon Goebbels
Local Demagoguery Reporter

Our army of right-wing trolls have been a little bit quieter than usual of late. The usual click-bait articles about farmers, the ULEZ or Weatherforks boozers have failed to get them angrily pounding away at their keyboards, throwing insults and invective at anyone or anything.

Perhaps they are beginning to realise that no matter how much they blame Labo*r and Keir St*rmer for everything, the bottom line is that it is their precious Tories who have wrecked the country, possibly beyond salvation.

But never mind the UK’s collapsing NHS, its broken water and sewage disposal systems, its precarious energy and food supplies, the deteriorating international situation, our crime-ridden streets, our crumbling schools or a Brexit-ravaged economy. There is one topic of paramount importance that will always get the trolls fired up…

Potholes…

The recent cold snap has led to an upsurge in the number of potholes afflicting Midway’s already crumbling roads.

Local demagoguery reporter Simon Goebbels finds the true cost of compensating the borough's stricken drivers and asks if devolution will herald change...

One of Midway's potholes, embellished by a local artist...

The irony was lost on no one. Councillor Herbert Voletrouser, who chairs the scrutiny committee for highways and transport at Midway Borough Council (KCC), missed the start of the January 14 Midway Roads and Transport committee meeting after his BMW ran into a sharp-edged, four-inch deep pothole and punctured his tyre.

Anyone who has listened to Cllr Voletrouser, Conservative member for Poshmansions South East, will know he is not short of opinions about the state of the county's roads.

He also has the rare distinction of attracting complete cross-party ridicule as a result of his somewhat radical ideas to address the state of Midway’s roads.

But the councillor's story will be a familiar one to anyone whose car has been damaged by Midway’s crumbling roads.

Tory Cllr. Herbert Voletrouser
Cllr Voletrouser had been making his way along Hairpin Bend, near Buxley, at around 90mph and was forced into a long, wide and deep pothole when a van came along in the opposite direction.

He said: “I had no way to avoid a deep pothole, all because some working class oik was in his bloody white van driving on the other side of the road.”

“If that van hadn’t had the audacity be on the road at the same time as I was using it, I could easily avoided the pothole.”

Cllr Voletrouser has asked for the pothole to be fixed to prevent another similar accident and he genuinely fears for the safety of other motorists like himself

"No one has missed the irony of my being the chairman of the very committee which asks the tough questions of the highways department ending up in a pothole," he added.

"My real worry is that potholed roads are a lurking disaster for luxury car users like myself."

Cllr Voletrouser recognises there are growing pressures on the county's roads, not least house building adding to the volume of traffic and the estimated 11,000 lorries which trundle along them each day.

But Cllr Voletrouser has a simple solution that will eliminate wear and tear on the region’s raods, and also solve all of the highway congestion.

“It’s simple,” he says. “Only cars costing more than £80,000 when brand new and less than five years old should be allowed on the roads. Why should poor people be allowed to get in the way of luxury cars drivers such as me?”

“I pay £600 a year road tax, damn it! Why should I fund plebs who pay only a fraction of that, just because they drive cheap, old nasty pauper’s cars?”

“We German high-performance car drivers drive a lot faster than the peasantry, and so our journeys take a lot less time. That means we cause far less wear and tear on the roads than the plebs who clutter up our roads with their cheap cars by driving at the speed limit,” Cllr Volestrouser reasons.

“Lorries should also be restricted to a weight of 10 tonnes, and only be allowed to travel at night,” he adds.

“And the same goes for Transit vans and things like that which are driven by the working classes. They should only be allowed on the roads during the hours of darkness as well.”

Cllr Voletrouser is dismissive about the impact of such drastic measures upon the UK’s infrastructure and logistics systems.

“We managed in the good old days before supermarkets and Amazon deliveries. And if peasants want to get around, then they should catch buses or trains, or even walk. I had to when I was a child and it didn’t do me any harm. In fact, it made me the man I am today!”

“I just want peasants to stop ruining the roads my exorbitant car tax pays for, and to get out of my bloody way!”

Just before Christmas, Prime Minister Sir Ke*r St*rmer said: “Broken roads can risk lives and cost families hundreds if not thousands of pounds on repairs. That’s a cost that can easily be avoided by investing properly in our roads.”

“That’s why we’re giving councils funding to repair our roads and get Britain moving again – with a clear expectation that they get on with the job.”

Midway Council welcomed the government's recent £1.6 billion funding allocation for filling potholes and fixing roads, of which £322m will go to London and the south east.

Some Midway locals don’t think this is anywhere near enough, however.

Bessie Nartsie: "Bloody K*ir St*rmer..."
“The state of our roads is all clearly the fault of Ke*r St*rmer and his woke, leftist, socialist Labo*r party,” says Bessie Nartsie, REFORM UK PLC™©® candidate for the Chattingham North ward in the local Midway council elections due in May.

“Why are we spending UK tax payer’s money on giving illegal immigrants free holidays in luxury hotels?” she asks.

“Why don’t we just put picks and shovels in their hands the second they get out of their small boats instead? We can chain them together and put them to work filling in all the potholes made by 80 tonne foreign lorries. And if they do a bad job, then we can deport them to Rwanda, where they belong!!”

“Make ‘em work for their asylum applications, that what I say!!”

The Automobile Association (AA) released figures recently which showed the UK bill for vehicles damaged by road potholes in 2024 was £579 million - up £105m on the previous year.

Jim Spanner, manager at the Midway Exhaust and Tyre Centre, says it has seen an increase in pothole-related business in recent years.

“The damage caused by potholes can be tyre bulges, blow outs and even suspension or exhaust systems being affected.”

“Any component that moves takes an impact when it goes down a pothole.”

“As a result, we’re making loads of money out of Midway’s fourth-world cart-tracks that the council still calls ‘roads’,” said Mr. Spanner. “In fact, we’ve been nipping out at night and digging a few more potholes right outside our garage.”

“The council doesn't seem particularly quick to act on them, so it’s a licence to print money for us. Ker-ching, kerching…!”

Bizarre as it seems, Britain now has a National Pothole Day (January 15 this year) and a lobbying organisation called the Pothole Partnership, such is the widespread concern about the issue.

The partnership comprises the AA, National Motorcyclists' Council, British Cycling, IAM RoadSmart, the British Motorcyclists' Federation and pothole fixing machine makers, JCB.

National Pothole Day is an event borne out of increasing concerns and supported by many bodies, including the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) charity.

Midway Council Leader Vic Marbles...
“National Pothole Day is one of celebration in the Midway Towns,” say the leader of Midway’s Labo*r Council, Vic Marbles. “It’s a day when we invite the people of Midway to go out and decorate the borough’s potholes, creatively turning them into works of art rather than just dangerous nuisances.”

“We know we’re never going to get the money or the manpower to ever fix the state of Midway’s roads that are a legacy of 20 years of Tory neglect,” says Marbles, “so we might as well have a laugh about it.”

Fixing potholes on the borough’s 1,000 miles of road is a constant struggle, although MBC does appear to be making progress.

Motoring organisation RAC figures estimate there are on average sixty potholes for every mile of road in Midway, while 96% of AA members believe that fixing them is a priority of drivers.

“However, despite the headlines and sound-bites, I must note that the government’s promised funding falls short of that needed to maintain our roads and other highways assets to the level we want, let alone tackling the maintenance backlog,” adds council leader Marbles

“As we move towards devolution and local government reform in Midway, albeit at a timescale currently unclear, I do hope part of this involves whoever is looking after our highways being in a position to plan over a long-term period, with genuinely adequate funds, to ensure we keep our the people in Midway moving about their lives safely and in a way they deserve and expect.”

In the real world, the trolls are indeed unusually quiet. Fortunately this article predictably got a few of the regulars out, but perhaps a new year ‘troll cull’ has seen some of the more rabid ones banned? I hope not. Where would this blog be without them?

I do not see why rich people like me should pay taxes that are then just squandered on things we rich never use, like the NHS or social services. As for roads, Cllr Voletrouser has it right. We luxury car drivers pay far more road tax than the common peasantry does, so the poor should simply be kept off of our roads and out of our way. That would eliminate traffic congestion and the associated road damage at a stroke.

Potholes form when water seeps into fissures in the road surface and is repeatedly frozen and thawed, causing the structure to crumble. This process is made far worse by electric SUVs, each of which weighs over 10 tonnes due to the extremely heavy batteries they use and which tear up the roads and cause potholes wherever they go. Brass Farthing Distillery In Chattingham Closes its Bilges Restaurant Due To Evil Labo*r Chancellor’s Budget

A family-run gin distillery has announced the closure of its restaurant with a “heavy heart”.

The Brass Farthing Distillery opened after a three-year restoration and refurbishment of a Grade II listed Victorian sewage works in Chattingham docks. In 2016, the distillery bought the site from Midway Water after the water company declared that spending money on the treatment of raw sewage was not in the interest of its shareholders.

Instead, Midway Water said that it would be dumping sewage straight into the River Midway, which it still does today, just like all of the other UK’s overseas-owned water companies, in accordance with “Free Market” philosophy.

The Bilges restaurant : "Upmarket destination" in downmarket Chattingham. What could go wrong...?

In 2020 the Brass Farthing Distillery subsequently opened a fine dining restaurant and cocktail bar in an adjacent Victorian sewage pump house called The Bilges, aiming to create an “upmarket destination” for food, drink and hospitality.

But, in a post that we skimmed off social media yesterday (January 16), the distillery announced the venue would be closing despite efforts to remain open, citing “Labo*r’s business-hostile October budget” as the sole contributing factor.

Evil Chancellor R*chel Re*ves
The post said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the immediate closure of our restaurant, The Bilges.”

“The recent evil Labo*r government’s budget has significantly increased operational costs, further worsened business outlook and has pushed our restaurant's viability beyond reach.”

“This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply regret the disappointment it will cause to our loyal customers. Not to mention our loyal staff who will all be losing their jobs, so we won’t.”

In June 2022, owner Simon Yapper said the distillery was being unfairly taxed and claimed the Treasury had a “vendetta" against rich people like him.

“What’s the point of a Tory government if rich people like me have to pay taxes,” he said at the time.

“Only poor people should pay tax. Asking people like me to pay taxes is just typical of left-wingers like Liz Truss who are now prominent in the Tory government these days.”

Speaking this afternoon on Facebook, Matthew Yapper, one of the founders of the business and operator of the Bilges, said they were “devastated” to have to shut up shop.

“In short, it’s purely down to evil Labo*r chancellor R*chel Re*ves, who is insisting that we pay our staff a decent minimum wage, along with an increase in employer national insurance contributions,” he explained.

Matthew Yapper: "It's NOT FAIRRR!!"
“It’s NOT FAIRRRR!”

“The reality was it was going to add somewhere in the region of £75,000 to our annual staff costs and I’m not going to be able to pay myself a hefty bonus with that additional sum.”

“The business was struggling from day one as there simply isn’t a market for high-priced London-style restaurants in a place like Chattingham, but of course we weren’t going to admit that our business plan was a lot of wishful thinking and hot air.”

“Fortunately, the election of a Labo*r government gave us an excuse to cut our losses and cash in by selling the site to developers, just like we were already planning to do anyway. Now we can cover up our own incompetence and greed whilst blaming R*chel Re*ves for our doomed operation shutting up shop, just like lots of other Tory businessmen…”

Mr Yapper said they had explored different ways to address such challenges and offset costs, including the usual standbys of firing some staff and forcing the rest to work harder while upping prices and cutting quality.

“In the end, we’ve simply decided to shut down and sell the site to developers,” he said.

“That gives me a nice little cash windfall. We’ve got a wonderful site here overlooking the river and we’ve had a very good offer for it from developers looking to build the usual luxury flats.”

Despite the closure of its restaurant, the Brass Farthing Distillery said that the Schitehouse Gin©™ and Schitehouse Whisky©™ brands “are still making us loads of money”.

On its Facebook post, the venue added that “it continues to thrive and therefore it will carry on welcoming visitors to Victorian sewage pump house experiences until the developers move in”.

The post finished by saying: “Our family business remains deeply rooted in making shed-loads of money from its customers and the community, whilst paying lip service to the heritage and craftsmanship of Chattingham.”

“Thank you for your understanding and your ongoing support. But mostly, thank you for your money. Long may you continue to give it to us...”

In the real world, the usual social media-skimming substitute for journalism doesn’t tell you that the hard-done-by business owner whining about “Labour this” and “Labour that” is the chair of his local Conservative association. Which is obviously nothing to do with his Labour-bashing stance, of course…

I sympathise deeply with Mr. Yapper. I agree with him when he says that this closure is entirely the fault of Ke*r St*rmer and evil Chancellor R*chel Re*ves. The removal of the universal Winter Fuel Payment, the imposition of inheritance tax on farmland, increases in the minimum wage and employers national insurance contributions and Ke*r St*rmer’s freebie spectacles are all directly responsible for the closure of yet another Midway business. All those who voted Labo*r at the last election should hang their heads in shame.

MT Weatherforks Confirms New Midway Boozer - At Heathen’s Midway Coast Holiday Park At Claptout-On-Sea

Our favourite Brexity pub giant Weatherforks has confirmed it is to open its latest boozer - at a Midway holiday park.

Fantastic Weatherforks newest Midway boozer; The Sunlit Uplands at Claptout-On-Sea...

The firm is extending its partnership with UK holiday firm Heathen - unveiling four new boozers at its parks.

And among them is the Midway Coast Holiday Park - formerly known as the Claptout Holiday Park – at Midway’s seaside resort of Claptout-On-Sea.

It will be welcoming the on-site Weatherforks, to be called The Sunlit Uplands. Heathen says it has invested around £1.3 million in the boozer.

Opening in March, other Weatherforks boozers will open in other British resort areas with a Really Extreme Far-Out Rightwing Maniacs Party UK PLC©™® MP, such as Skankness, Great Footanmouth, South Doubledown and East Pillock. In total, Heathen says it’s invested £6.5m in its expansion of its partnership with the pub giant.

Heathen has pursued a significant investment in its parks over recent years - saying it has invested £100m during 2024.

Over the past 18 months, other significant investments at its Midway Coast park include a night rally centre for torchlight parades, a Weimar Cabaret bar and expanded arcade, as well as a new modern “Strength Through Joy” fitness camp.

Simon Palehorse, Heathen’s chief executive, said: “The opening of The Sunlit Uplands at Midway Coast reflects our ongoing efforts to grow and enhance our partnership with the Really Extreme Far-Out Rightwing Maniacs Party UK PLC©™®. We look forward to bringing this immersive far-right experience to even more locations across the UK for old Tory or REFORM-voting UK PLC©™® Brexity, xenophobic pensioners who have lots of spending money and won’t travel abroad in case they might meet ‘forreners’.”

Sir Martin Timms, CEO and owner of MT Weatherforks, added: “Our pubs in the Midway area cater for Midway’s infamous population of shouty old Tory pensioners, binge-drinkers and other assorted clapped-out old fascists, and have proven to be a great success. We are confident that the four new pubs will be welcomed by the same demographic, i.e. long-term unemployables on benefits and obnoxious, well-off old Tories with pension money to spend.”

Midway’s fantastic Weatherforks boozers are already doing fantastic January deals on beer, with a pint of Symond’s Special Delight (a fruity and slightly nutty brew offering a good head) or Johnson Senior’s Wifebeater (a beer that really packs a punch at 6.2%) only costing a fantastic 99p.

As part of the planning permission, The Sunlit Uplands at Claptout-On-Sea will be open to holidaymakers and park home owners only.

“But we’ll soon leverage our scale, brow-beat the council and open up to everyone within the next twelve months,” said Sir Timms.

“You can bet your Brexit on that…”

In the real world, yet another desperate “swoon over ‘spoons” advertorial

Stoatweed’s Farm Shop at Stoatweed Farm in Buxley preparing to close after 40 years

Stoatweed's Farm Shop (picture from Facebook)

A family-run farm shop is closing its doors after nearly 40 years in business.

Stoatweed’s Farm Shop at Stoatweed Farm in Buxley has sold locally produced food and drink since opening in 1985.

But now bosses say it is time to say goodbye as the shop prepares to close at the end of the month.

Angus Stoatweed: "heavy heart"
Announcing the news on social media the owner, Angus Stoatweed, said: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our family-run farm shop.”

“Our proposed date for closure is Friday, January 31.”

“For the past 40 years, we have been dedicated to providing our community with the freshest, locally sourced cabbages, high-strength farm-produced cider and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, which the cabbages helped to create.”

“We are incredibly grateful to every one of our loyal customers who have supported us.”

“Thank you again for your support.”

The post did not disclose the reason for the decision to shut the shop and we were too lazy to contact them to ask as that would have involved actual journalism, which we don’t do.

The farm shop also sells Stoatweeds Old Headbanger, a cider which is also produced on the farm.

The news has come as a shock to the loyal local cabbage lovers and drunks, who have expressed their sadness at the closure.

One person commented to say: “Sad news. All the best for the future.”

Another said they would “miss the lovely ladies who staff the shop”, while another said they would miss the “cabbages and brussels sprouts from the farm”.

One long-standing customer said: “So very sad to be losing such a great farm shop, have been coming to you since we moved to the area 40 years ago.”

A local cider lover, Mrs U.I. said “Thas shome ve’y ve’ y shad newsh. Back to Tescosh for the Speshial Brew I supposh. I luv you yor my bes’ mate hic…”

The latest closure announcement comes in the same week that Bogle’s Farm Shop in Bogle Gusset, near Stroochester, shut its doors.

It had also been trading for more than 40 years.

Meanwhile, a butcher's at Himmler House Farm Shop in Cobblesdown has also closed.

A post on social media said the butchery side of the business “has not been financially viable for several years”.

More superb investigative journalism (i.e. looking at stuff on Facebook) from the real world…

I agree that these closures are simply awful Chad. Fortunately, the majority of our UK news outlets are pumping out vast clouds of disinformation and negativity about L*bour’s economic policies and the financial markets are beginning to believe it all.
